A Topaz Touch

It’s that time of year where we find ourselves becoming reflective and reminiscing on the good experiences and the bad. The bad that have made us become a stronger person and for that we can only be proud to say that we made it through another year (well, almost!)

This month’s birth stone post is the Topaz. Although the most popular colour is brownish-yellow, this gem stone occurs in a range of other beautiful colours - blue, yellow, pink, pale green, pink, red, brown and even black. Pure topaz itself is colourless. There are a variety of elements that can affect the colouring of this stone such as humidity or element substitutions, heat treatment can also transform its colour. Looks like the Topaz comes with it’s perks though: it’s a rare one to find and similar to a diamond, when brilliantly cut, can often be mistaken for one because it’s just so beautiful…like you!

The November birthstone is said to come with many benefits. The ancient Greeks believed that it would strengthen the mind and give them wisdom. The early Europeans believed it could thwart magic spells and guard them against sudden death. Hocus pocus. The funniest fact about the Topaz is that some believed that one way of curing poor eye sight was to immerse the stone in wine for three days and nights, then rubbing this concoction on the eyes. Say what?
