Breathe in the cool of the chilly season, close your eyes and let your imagination take you far over rolling green hills to a place of secret adventure – the place where you find what you have been looking for…

Sigh, we don’t know about you, but the captivating green of an emerald makes us want to run into the wild and roll on a lush grassy knoll. Ok, maybe that’s too much, but you have to admit that the distinct colour is calming and energising at the same time and has a way of making you slow down and smell the forest.

This jewel is a treasure among many and a few lucky ladies get to claim emeralds as their official birthstone! (Excuse us while we try not to turn green with envy…) That may be true, but we can all learn a few things from this gorgeous rock.

Lesson 1: Embrace your flaws

Emeralds are the only gem stone that naturally contain fissures (cracks), and are more brittle than other rocks, but still highly sought after because of their unique colouring.

These cracks within an emerald are sometimes described as jardin (French for garden), because of their mossy appearance.

Specific imperfections are also unique for each kind of emerald and are used to identify a particular stone. Remember that you can be a little broken, a little fragile, and still stunningly beautiful and precious. In fact, it can enhance your unique beauty.

While we believe there is beauty in our flaws, our me·mi emeralds are far from cracked. Every birthstone is genuine SWAROVSKI crystal, which means they are crafted to perfection, just like you.

Lesson 2: you’re worth more than you know

Did you know that carat for carat, a fine emerald can be two to three times as valuable as a diamond? It may not get as much airtime as the diamond, but because of its rarity – people love it!

Don’t worry, you won’t have to pay a whole lot to have your own emerald, you can purchase any one of our stunning pieces and personalise it with an elegant SWAROVSKI emerald gem. You can also combine the two, like we do in our diamond collection, take a peek.

Lesson 3: royals, this way…

Emeralds have always been worn by royalty and celebrities. In the first century BC the King of Egypt had an emerald engraved with the portrait of the great Roman general, Lucullus, as a gift. A little extravagant, but he seemed to like it!

Alexander the Great wore a large emerald on his girdle. We get it, if you’re going to attack a nation in battle, at least look good doing it. The emerald mine in Upper Egypt, which was rediscovered near the Red Sea a hundred years ago, was Cleopatras own personal source of emeralds – they were her favourite. The Irani State Treasure has an amazing collection of emeralds, as well as the emerald tiara of ex-Empress Farah.

Lesson 4: go on an adventure

Emeralds are found all over the world in from Afghanistan to China, Ethiopia, France and Canada, with many countries in between. It is an international gem, just like you. Suzy Kassem even describes India as an emerald her writings titled ‘Rise Up and Salute the Sun’.

‘…hold this dazzling emerald up to the sky, it will shine a billion beautiful miracles painted from the tears of the most high.’

Be inspired and seduced into your adventure by your very own emerald. Make sure to take your personalised compass charm with SWAROVSKI emerald along so you can always find your way.
