September babies: The Sapphire is Yours

It’s Virgo season! And with that comes September's birth stone; the Sapphire.

  1. First thing that comes to mind when you think of sapphires is that it is always a royal blue color, but sapphires actually come in almost every colour of the rainbow — including pink, peach, orange, yellow, green, teal, and purple. Red sapphires are better known as rubies!
  2. The word sapphire (sapphirus and sappheiros) is derived from the Latin and Greek words for “blue”.
  3. Sapphires are among the most durable naturally occurring elements in the world. They are the second hardest substance after diamonds! The durability of sapphires makes them an excellent choice for engagement rings and other every day jewellery like our elegant piece the Quattro Drop Bar necklace that provides just the right amount of blue sparkle!
  4. Deep blue sapphires have long been associated with royalty (which likely contributed to the naming of the color “royal blue”). Royal blue sapphires were often worn by medieval kings, some of whom believed that the gemstones would protect them from their enemies.

Throughout the ages, Sapphires have symbolised truth, sincerity, wisdom and inner peace. Also believed to protect the wearer from being harmed and tempted by evil. Who knows, maybe there’s still evil out there we all need protecting from? In that case, hurry and get yourself something with a touch of Sapphire, like our Bold Name necklace with a sapphire accent. You’d rather be safe than sorry! ;)
