It is said that the Chinese Dowager Empress Tz'u Hsi loved gemstones so much that when she died, her body was buried covered in them. Her favourite was her beloved pink tourmaline which she had brought in large quantities from a Himalaya Mine in California.
While that
may be a little over the top, even for the 1800s, we also completely understand
where she is coming from. Everybody says that diamonds are supposed to be a
girl’s best friend, but there is something about a touch of pink that gets our
girly hearts beating a little faster.
Tourmaline
appears naturally in many colours, sometimes being mistaken for other gems, but
its most sought-after colour is the pink/red variety which is known as
rubellite.
Watermelon
tourmaline is green on the outside and a delicious pink on the inside.
Translation: this gem is tons of fun!
This month
also happens to be breast cancer awareness month, so we felt like it was a
perfect time to go all Elle Woods on this month’s gem stone. It’s time to
throwback to what Legally Blonde taught us years ago = pink is power!
The Pink Drive,
a company that supports those affected by breast cancer, has proven time and
again that women that are empowered can overcome pretty much anything! Breast
cancer is the most common cancer occurring in women globally and the second
most common cancer overall affecting both men and women. In solidarity with
this incredible cause, people wear pink more often. We can definitely get on
board with that!
Why not try
a hot pink gem on for size? Tourmaline comes in varying shades of the colour,
but our SWAROVSKI gem is the bold kind. Whether you opt for something
understated like our
heart
birthstone necklace
or something a little more flashy, like the designer
crown necklace, both from our designer collection, this blushing gem
is sure to bring out your inner diva.
And just
when you thought it couldn’t get any better, SWAROVSKI crystals are an
affordable alternative to actual tourmaline gems. And here is a secret from us
to you… no-one will ever know the difference!
So ladies
(and gents), we encourage you to show some flair with pink this month and show
your support while strutting your stuff. Get your hot pink, rose, carnation or
blush outfits ready to go and round it off with a beautiful piece of jewellery
to encourage others that they are not alone in their fight.
